Update on Legal Challenge by the FOTCMA - Costs Endorsement
On February 28, 2014, the Divisional Court issued its decision on costs in Yuan, Li et al v. Transitional Council of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario and the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. Last month, the Court dismissed an application challenging the College’s Registration Regulation. That application had been brought by Mr. Li, Mr. Yuan, and the Federation of Ontario Traditional Chinese Medicine Association (the "Federation") along with others. The College’s summary of those proceedings can be found on its website under, "News and Events".

2014 Professional Insurance renew notice£¨HUB£©
As the CTCMPAOs license will expire on May 31 each year, HUB is offering insurance coverage for 14 months from April 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015. Eligible members can contact their office to apply. The premium for $1M Professional Liability is $325 p.a. and 14 months premium is $379 plus 8% Ontario RST = $409.32

HST-Exemption for Acupuncture Services on 2014
Under the GST/HST, services covered under a provincial public health care plan are exempt in that province. Exemptions are also provided for services rendered to individuals by physicians, dentists and nurses and certain other health care practitioners, such as optometrists and midwives. The list of other health care practitioners whose services are exempt is set out in the GST/HST legislation.
